Bayview Correctional Facility Sexual Abuse Lawsuit
Bayview Correctional Facility, was a medium-security women’s prison on West 20th Street in Manhattan. After it sustained major damage from Hurricane Sandy in 2012 it was closed, and never reopened.
During it’s 4 decades in existence, prison officials ignored persistent complaints about sexual abuse at the facility. About 57 percent of Bayview inmates surveyed alleged being threatened, and forced into sex with corrections officers. Even inmates who willingly participated in sexual relationships with guards can pursue justice as this is illegal under New York State law.
New York has recently signed into law the Adult Survivors Act which erases the statute of limitations to file a case and gives those who were detained at Bayview, no matter how long ago the abuse occurred, an opportunity to pursue justice, closure, and a possible meaningful financial settlement.
If you were incarcerated at Bayview women’s prison at any time, and were forced into sex with guards, or subjected to any sexual misconduct, you now have rights under the law, and our attorneys take hold of those rights and battle to the end to ensure you get the justice and maximum compensation you deserve.
